Behind the Scenes - February 2011 presents four updates that have got a disadvantage from the very start. Each one of these updates has to compete with what is one of the most important 'updates' in RuneScape's history - the returning of the Old Wilderness and Free Trade. Even worse, like many update months shown in the BTS - this one seems somewhat pedestrian.
The Prisoner of Glouphrie[]
Hands up if you're a fan of gnomes. Thought not. Anyway, this is a new gnome quest, a sequel to The Path of Glouphrie.
"We’re going to need an adventurer: someone who will recklessly bound into Arposandra, throw a gnome over their shoulder and be back home in time for cocktails."
Erm, what? Anyway, the general rule of thumb is that if the first time you hear about a quest is the BTS and the second time the actual update, chances are its not going to be groundbreaking, so don't get your hopes up. Gnomes are also getting a graphical rework, which is good because the current versions aren't fit to be on Action 52.
Pottery Update and New Crafting Methods[]
Yay, pottery. Even the skillers don't like doing it, and when they spend 24 hours a day cutting the same yew tree, you know something sucks. Anyway, players can craft urns, stick a random rune on them and use them as a variation on the Penance Horn. The update falls flat on its face when Jagex thinks getting 2k exp at level 81 is generous. A likely candidate for the list.
Demon Ashes[]
It took several years for Jagex to finally realise demon ashes should work like bones. You can't pass this off as an interesting update, sorry.
Shortcut Improvements[]
Jagex decide to add some shortcuts to the game that don't require a crossbow or other silly equipment to use. Done right this may possibly be the most useful update of the four, although Jagex may use the Great Turnback as an excuse to skimp on quality.
Q: Whens the Old Wildy + Free Trade article coming then?
